Bits of Gaming - 4/27/09

April 27, 2009 - Nick Recchia Tom Worthington
How long can you survive?: If you own Left 4 Dead but haven't downloaded the recent free DLC Survival mode then you need to get to your 360 and get that right now. If you have no idea what I'm talking about think Horde mode for Gears of War 2 and replace Locusts with zombies. I didn't get to play a whole lot of it but what I did play was insane. The objective is to stay alive for as long as possible. You are provided molotovs, gas cans, propane tanks, pipe bombs and ammo to help keep the zombies at bay. Our best time was around 3:30 which I thought would be easy to get to but once the game makes its mind up about screwing your team over there is no stopping it. Most of the time it comes from one member getting knocked off the side of the roof (Dead Air map) and left hanging while two other members get grabbed by Smokers and the other gets jumped on my a Hunter. It can get really frustrating when this happens time after time but for some reason it makes me want to keep trying. If you have it already have fun if you haven't then you probably should. I mean c'mon it is free.

Guitar Hero: Van Halen?: According to Joystiq Gamestop's site revealed a listing on Saturday for Guitar Hero: Van Halen. It has since been pulled from the site but either way I doubt it was a joke and will most likely be revealed soon. Especially after this screwup by Gamestop. From the screenshots that were taken it appears that the pre-orders will ship on 8/4/09. When you will actually be able to pre-order is another question. I'm not much into the single band games but for me, I think that Guitar Hero: Van Halen might be worth taking a look at.

Two more players doomed?: Last week the Madden 10 cover players were revealed and one of them was none other than Pittsburgh's own, Troy Polamalu. Why oh why did they have to curse a Steeler. Although one important point was brought up by Tom Worthington, Polamalu plays hurt most of the time anyways so maybe the curse will backfire and make him not get injured. One can dream right? The other player is Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals. Not that I want harm to come to any player in the NFL but if I had to choose between these two I'd rather it not be Troy. My question is, knowing the Madden cover curse exists, why accept to be on the cover?
