Big Round of Paws! Weis helping homeless pets in need

May 6, 2009 - Amy Jo Hanna
Please give a A BIG ROUND OF PAWS to Weis Markets!

The grocery store chain (and I’m a proud Weis shopper!) is featuring Paws for Pets, a chain-wide program offering customers the opportunity to donate pet food and supplies to local animal shelters during the month of May.

Donations collected in each store will be distributed to local pet shelters to help homeless pets in need. The program continues through the end of May at all Weis Market stores, including the company's Kings and Mr. Z's stores located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia.

1. Purchase the items you want to give. (list of requested items listed below or are available at each market)
2. Cashiers will place an “I GAVE! You can too” sticker on the items before adding them to the Paws for Pets collection cart.
3. You will receive an “I GAVE!” paw print sticker to add to our window poster.

You can find a list of all participating shelters and additional information at

Requested items:

Dog, Cat, Puppy or Kitten Dry or Wet Food • Kitty Litter • Toys  • Treats • Dishwashing Liquid  • 100% Bleach • New Mops or Brooms • New Towels or Washcloths • Collars  • Harnesses  • Leashes • Pet Shampoos • Nail Clippers • Pet Brushes or Combs • Stainless Steel Food/Water Bowls • Powder Free Latex Gloves

"With the slow economy, we're hearing about the increasing number of pets that are turning up in pet shelters, resulting in an increased need for pet food and pet supplies," said Jonathan Weis , Weis Markets' Vice Chairman.

Thanks for telling me about this Amy. I'm all about causes that I can support in the local area and helping out our four-footed friends who can't always help themselves is up on the top of my list.

Weis will certainly be getting more of my business knowing that they do this. Sure, I can help myself out at other stores, but I'll feel much better knowing that I helped out someone or something else at the end of the day.

I knew Weis was my favorite grocery store for a reason! This is marvelous - I'll be donating this weekend. Thanks for getting the word out Amy - and thanks Weis for initiating such a wonderful program.
