The Momentum Myth

June 9, 2009 - John Mehno

The NHL season will end either late on Friday, June 12 or in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 13.

It's the Penguins and Detroit Red Wings in a one-game, winner-take-all showdown in Detroit.

You want a prediction? I picked the Penguins in a long series before it started, so I'll stick with that. Otherwise, flip a coin.

If we've learned one thing, it's that there is no carryover from one game to the next. The Penguins had a great night in Game 4 to even the series, then played horribly in Game 5. They followed that with a solid effort in Game 6 to force Friday's deciding game in Detroit.

So don't waste time trying to figure out any patterns. Just enjoy the last game of the season, and be thankful it will be over before the official arrival of summer.
