Here and there: 'True Blood' and the weather

June 15, 2009 - Ray Eckenrode
‘True Blood’
Our favorite part of the “True Blood” season premiere? No, not Anna Paquin’s nude scene. Rather, it was getting to hear John Doe’s “Golden State” playing on the jukebox at Merlotte’s and Faron Young’s classic “Hello Walls” spun on the hi fi at Sookie’s grandmother’s house. Pure bliss.
You can find an episode recap and track listing for all the music here.

Weather or not
   > A few weeks ago, we mentioned The Weather Channel’s “TruPoint Future Radar” now available at weather.com with the caveat that it was probably as inaccurate as any other forecasting. We’d like to amend that to say that’s it’s much more inaccurate than other forecasting. In fact, it’s absolutely worthless. We’ve monitored it for about three weeks and we’ve yet to see an instance where it was accurate in predicting precipitation three hours in the future. On top of that, it doesn’t recognize quick changes in the weather and keeps projecting the same pattern regardless.
   > One of our favorite “Stupid Weather Tricks” is when a local station tries to pretend like it’s getting different forecasts for towns in the region by changing the wording of said forecast. TV10’s crawl today read: Altoona, some clouds, 78; Huntingdon, sun and clouds, 79; State College, a few clouds, 77. Thousands are tuning in for that kind of pinpoint forecasting.
